How to choose a performance marketer in India: 7 checks that matter
Plenty of people call themselves the best performance marketer in India. These seven checks show you who can prove it, including how to test me.
Search for the best performance marketer in India and you will find a lot of confident claims. There is no official ranking, so the useful question is a different one: how do you tell a real specialist from someone good at sales? I am an independent performance marketing specialist based in Tamil Nadu, so judge this list with that in mind, then use it on me too.
1. Ask for proof from inside the ad account
A logo wall proves very little. Ask for screenshots from Google Ads or Meta Ads Manager showing spend, conversions and cost per conversion for a stated period. On my case studies I show account figures such as 151,000+ conversions at ₹71.64 each for a senior care group.
2. Check they have worked with your kind of business
A person who sells ₹500 products online and a person who gets patients for a clinic do different jobs. Ask for a case from your industry or a close one. My own industry pages show what I have and have not done.
3. Ask how they set up tracking
This question separates people quickly. Ask how they would track a lead from a click through to a sale. A good answer mentions GA4, Tag Manager, Meta's Conversions API and offline conversions from your sales data. A weak answer only mentions the Pixel.
4. Find out who does the work
Agencies often sell with senior people and deliver with junior ones. That can be fine if you are told. Ask for the name of the person who will log in to your account each week. I compare both options in freelancer versus agency.
5. Confirm you own everything
Your ad accounts, Pixel, analytics and landing pages should be yours from day one. If someone wants to run your ads from their own account, walk away, because you lose your history when you leave them.
6. Listen for honest limits
Nobody can promise a fixed ROAS before seeing your numbers. A specialist should be willing to tell you when ads are the wrong spend, or when your budget is too small to learn. Guaranteed results are a warning sign.
7. Compare the total cost, not the fee
A cheap fee on a badly run account costs more than a higher fee on a good one. Work out your limit with the break-even ROAS calculator, then read what performance marketing costs by country.
A quick scorecard
| Check | Good sign | Warning sign |
|---|---|---|
| Proof | Account screenshots with dates | Only logos and awards |
| Tracking | Explains server-side and offline data | "The Pixel handles it" |
| Ownership | Accounts in your name | Their account, your budget |
| Promises | Ranges and a test plan | Guaranteed ROAS |

Frequently asked
Who is the best performance marketer in India?
There is no independent ranking, so be careful with anyone claiming the title. Judge candidates on verifiable account results in your industry, tracking knowledge and who actually does the work. Premkumar Ragav is one independent specialist you can assess this way, because his site shows figures from real accounts.
How much do performance marketers charge in India?
It varies widely with experience and account size. Freelancers and agencies may charge a flat monthly fee, a share of spend or a mix. Compare the total cost against the profit the account brings in.
Should I hire someone in my own city?
It rarely matters for paid media, as the work is remote. Local knowledge helps with language and customer habits, so check for experience in your market instead.
